Greenville’s safety area grading project, which had been interrupted, is once again underway.

Malouf Construction returned to the Greenville Mid-Delta airfield in May to continue their work on a safety area grading project for Runway 18L/36R. The project was awarded under the Airport Improvement Program grant allotment for 2019.

The grading project is removing ruts, humps and depressions from the runway safety area and is making the area smoother and better able to support the weight of an aircraft that may depart the runway.

“We are very pleased that the weather has finally broken and that Malouf Construction is back on the field and making great progress,” Airport Director Sam Washington noted. “The team has completed initial work on over 6,000 feet of the east side of the runway and south end safety area, as well as the full 8,001 feet of the west side of the runway. All that remains is the north end safety area and roughly 2,000 feet on the east side.”

The project should be completed by mid-summer.
