Joyce Tillman, JMAA Director of Airport Facilities

Hats off to Joyce Tillman! The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) recently named her the Director of Airport Facilities.

Employed with JMAA since 2002, Tillman has served in the capacity of Facilities Engineer in the Facilities and Capital Programming Departments. She was responsible for assisting the organization with the project management of several capital improvement and tenant improvement projects at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) and Hawkins Field Airport (HKS). Some of her job responsibilities included planning, assigning and reviewing contractor work; assisting with vendor, contractor and consultant monitoring and compliance during construction projects.

As the Airport Facilities Director, Tillman will be responsible for directing, managing, supervising and coordinating the maintenance and custodial services activities at JAN and HKS. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Mississippi State University and a Master of Science Degree in Public Administration from Belhaven University. She is a 2017 scholarship recipient of an American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Professional Development Scholarship. She is a member of the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Board of Directors for the Mississippi State University Central MS Alumni Association and the AAAE.

JMAA Operations and Public Safety Team Lead Airport-Wide FOD Walk

Recently, JMAA hosted the year’s first Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk event at JAN. FOD is essentially anything and everything that doesn’t belong on an airfield. This is generally composed of paper products, cans and everyday trash generated by patrons or employees. FOD poses a risk of being sucked into an aircraft propeller or turbine intake and causing serious, if not catastrophic, damage to an airplane’s engine.

Airports host FOD Walks with varied frequencies throughout the year to ensure airfield and aircraft safety. At the conclusion of the JAN event, team members had collected approximately 22 pounds of FOD. Bonnie Spears, Procurement Specialist, and Kate Francabandera, Properties Manager, each collected seven pounds of FOD material. Because of their accomplishments, Bonnie received a $25 NIKE gift card and Kate received three $10 Starbucks gift cards.

Thank you to all who participated in this effort. It is our imperative that we keep our airfield clean and clear of debris. Details on the next FOD Walk event will be released soon.
