Runway Renovation Moves Ahead in Louisville

By Mike Forster, President
Louisville-Winston Airport Authority

The runway renovation project will serve to improve safety and all weather operations of KLMS’ rapidly growing corporate jet operations.

The Louisville-Winston County Airport was awarded a multi-million dollar supplemental grant in 2019 to do a major renovation of the existing 17/35 runway. The engineering work has been completed, and a general contractor has been selected on the $4.9M project.

Work is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. Included in the project is a 151’ foot extension to the south, improvement in the line of sight on the runway and overlay/striping of the entire 4700’. In addition, significant work is being done on the northwest end of the airport property to address some erosion issues and improve the runoff area.
