MAA Lobbies for PFC Increase
In late October, three MAA board members and airport directors traveled to Washington, DC, to call on Mississippi’s Congressional delegation regarding the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC).
Mike Hainsey (GTR), Carl Newman (JAN) and Clay Williams (GPT) met with the state’s Senators and Representatives to discuss the need for an increase in the PFC. The PFC limit is currently $4.50, and it has not been adjusted since 2000, diminishing the overall buying power of the current collection. An increase in the PFC as proposed by Congress would result in approximately $3,586,800 per year for Mississippi’s commercial airports.
The MAA produced a brochure highlighting the positive impacts the state’s airports would realize if there were to be an increase in the PFC, which was used to help make the case for the increase.
In addition, the MAA group discussed with the delegation the proposed effort to privatize Air Traffic Control and the potential impact to airports across the state.
