MDOT Report

By Tommy Booth, Director
MDOT Aeronautics

FAA 5010 Airport Inspections:  The airport inspections have gotten off to a great start considering the amount of rain we’ve been receiving lately. David Lowery has completed 37 of 69, which is just slightly ahead of this time last year. Kudos to two airports with no discrepancies noted – Eupora Municipal and Hawkins Field. For the others, most of the discrepancies deal with runway lights not working. As a reminder, please have the based aircraft information available when your airport is inspected so that we can enter the information into the database.

New Website Soon! MDOT has contracted with a local firm to revamp the website. We met with our Public Affairs Division and Information Systems Division to go over the Aeronautics page and what to expect from the new layout. We are excited to find out that we will be able to easily upload information to our page, such as forms, checklists, etc. In the past, we had to go through a process that was time consuming, so many divisions did not update their material on a regular basis. One item we will add is a list of airports with links to their respective sites on Skyvector.com. This would be a document that you could download to your computer. Since we’ve been unable to produce a chart in the past several years, hopefully this will provide more up-to-date information for the flying public.

2019 MAA Annual Conference:  I hope that you’ve all made plans to attend this year’s conference in Natchez! It looks like we’ve got a great lineup of speakers and some really great topics. I look forward to seeing you there!
