The “New” Louisville-Winston County Airport

By Mike Forster, President
Louisville-Winston Airport Authority

In 2020, Louisville-Winston County Airport (KLMS) received a supplemental federal grant of over $5,000,000, and work has been progressing steadily since last fall. The “new” airport has an additional 150 feet of length, a newly resurfaced and grooved asphalt runway and a much-improved runway safety environment. Along with the runway work, all new LED powered lighting systems are being installed, including the beacon and windsocks.

Work is also underway on a new AWOS IIIPT weather reporting system, which will significantly enhance all-weather operations at KLMS. The AWOS system is expected to be in operation by the fourth quarter of 2021.
