Fellow Mississippi Aviation Professionals,

Another Annual Conference has come and gone.  A good number of written and verbal accolades have come in giving tribute to the Mississippi Airports Association, the Conference Committee and the hard work of Kathy and Kirsten.  Our guests from outside the State marvel at the camaraderie of this group of airport professionals.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently released figures on charitable giving habits of U.S. States.  Mississippi, despite being the state with the lowest per capita income, ranked second in charitable giving (defined as percentage of income given).  It may be surprising to those outside, but not those who work, play and worship in Mississippi.  Our State not only shines in philanthropy dollars but also in knowledge.

Our fellow airport management professionals are sharing expertise in airport development and operations, the integration of UAS/Drones into the National Airspace System, protecting communities from Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), revenue generation, aviation fuel operations & management, airline service development and passenger security to name a few.  You only must ask. If you’re not sure whom to call, join the Mississippi Airport Association and ask the question via the member forum.

Mr. Sam Washington, Vice President/President-Elect of the MAA and Airport Director of the Vicksburg Municipal Airport, has proposed a rewards program for pilots who visit the most Mississippi airports in a single year.  Sam has researched similar programs in other states.  It’s not only a program to interest local aviators to venture out, but also to invite pilots from neighboring states to experience Mississippi airports.  Good neighbors become a stronger community.  Give Sam a call or email of interest and/or support.

On behalf of your Board of Directors, we encourage all members to continue to share experiences and to recruit nonmembers to join the Mississippi Airports Association.
