FIRST TAKE!

Greetings MAA members,

As I write this, I am sitting at my desk looking out my window at an Army Cobra helicopter that just landed and a Piper Cherokee that is taxiing for departure.  In my mind, I hear Louis Armstrong singing a tune, “I see skies of blue and clouds of white, the bright blessed day, the dark sacred night; and I think to myself, what a wonderful world.”  That is just what I am feeling about where I am sitting as the Airport Director of the Greenville Mid-Delta Airport; what a wonderful world!  I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to do the kind of work I have long wanted to do.

I hope that each of you is having great success at your individual airports and that your passion for aviation and for airport management continues to burn brighter.  During this holiday season, please take some time to thank your staff for the hard work that they put in to keep your airport safe and in compliance.  Thank your boards, commissions, city councils and county boards for their dedication to advancing the cause of your airports and helping to keep aviation in Mississippi alive and vibrant.  Thank your airlines and passengers for continuing to have the confidence to make your airports their choice for air travel.  Thank your transient pilots and FBOs for helping to keep general aviation strong and useful.  Finally, thank your families for supporting you in what I consider to be one of the best career fields that a person can pursue.  Without all of these persons behind us and alongside us, our jobs are vastly more difficult.

Let me wish you all a Merry Christmas and a joyous and blessed New Year.  “May your days be merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be white.”  (I know, fat chance in Mississippi, but we can always dream!)  Blue skies and clear runways!!
