Working for Love: JMAA Partners with Mississippi Food Network During Historic Government Shutdown
During the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, federal employees at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport and Hawkins Field – including TSA, FAA, National Weather Service and Mississippi National Guard personnel – continued to report to work without pay, ensuring the safety and continuity of airport operations.
In response, the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) joined with community partners to support those serving under extraordinary circumstances.
“We’re standing right there with our federal employees, thanking them for their hard work,” said LSherie Dean, Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations for JMAA. “They’re truly working for love, and it shows every single day.”
Community support poured in from across the region, with Southwest Airlines sponsoring meals, the National Weather Service organizing food donations and airport departments supporting one another on a daily basis. JMAA was especially proud to partner with the Mississippi Food Network, which provided food boxes to help ease the burden on impacted federal employees.
This collective effort reflected the strength, compassion and unity of the airport community – demonstrating that even in challenging times, Mississippi stands together.
