On May 5, Golden Triangle Regional Airport hailed the arrival of American Airlines’ first flight from Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport with music, balloons and cowbells. Passengers were met with welcome gifts and greeted by Mississippi State University’s Bully mascot and cheerleaders. Also on hand were local officials, members of the GTR and MAA boards and other community members bearing welcome signs.
Operated by SkyWest Airlines for American, the new flight adds westbound service for Columbus- and Starkville-area travelers, complementing existing eastbound Delta Air Lines service to Atlanta. Currently serviced with a 65-seat CRJ-700, the aircraft will be changed to a 76-seat CRJ-900 on July 5.
“Since that first arrival, we’ve been seeing strong numbers on the westbound flight,” says airport Executive Director Matt Dowell. “Business, university and vacation travelers have really appreciated having this option.”
