With a focus on infrastructure, transparency, economic development and passenger experience, the Authority is charting a strong and strategic course for the future.
“Over the past two years, we have continued to make progress, and we look forward to continuing in a positive direction,” says Beckett.
Among the major milestones recognized:
• $22 million in federal funding secured and activated for taxiway rehabilitation;
• A second consecutive “clean” audit opinion, reflecting strong financial management and accountability;
• A successful FAA inspection with high-performance outcomes;
• More than $8 million in federal grants awarded within the past year;
• New nonstop Southwest Airlines service to Nashville, increasing connectivity for travelers;

• Selection of a nationally experienced fixed-base operator (FBO) at Hawkins Field Airport, bringing enhanced general aviation activity and fuel savings for users;
• And a nearly $2 billion annual economic impact delivered by JMAA to the state of Mississippi.
These accomplishments reflect JMAA’s commitment to excellence in aviation services, operational growth and regional economic development. With a strong foundation in place, the Authority remains focused on elevating air travel in Mississippi and delivering results that benefit passengers, partners and the broader community.
JMAA Interns Take Flight: Empowering Future Leaders
JMAA is also looking to the future of aviation and of Mississippi. The Authority is proud to welcome a dynamic group of college students whose talents and ambitions are taking off through this year’s internship program. From aviation operations to strategic communications, from human resources to finance and IT, these students represent the future of the industry – and JMAA is honored to play a role in their journey.
Sheriden Cannon, a Strategic Communication major at the University of Southern Mississippi, brings a passion for brand advocacy and is eager to build well-rounded experience across JMAA departments.
Boyd McMichael, a senior Aviation Management student at Delta State University, aspires to one day lead his own airport. He’s gaining hands-on insight into airfield operations, safety protocols and leadership in aviation.
Diamond Gilmore, studying Business Administration at Jackson State University, is exploring how cross-department collaboration keeps public transportation hubs operating smoothly and efficiently.
Aniyaja Blanford, also from the University of Southern Mississippi, is specializing in HR Management. Her focus lies in understanding HR’s role in aviation compliance, workforce strategy and organizational excellence.
Kayla Ausama, an Accounting major at Jackson State University, has completed one year in the program, growing her expertise in finance and IT. She has mastered invoice processing, asset tracking and data security – all while developing critical soft skills and professional confidence.
At JMAA, internship experiences go beyond observation. These students are embedded into real-world projects and career shadowing opportunities that bridge academic learning with industry application. Through programs like this, JMAA continues to fuel the future of aviation, investing in local talent and empowering tomorrow’s leaders to soar in the skies – and in their careers.
