Big Changes Ahead: A New Terminal Building Coming to Meridian Regional Airport

Construction is officially underway on the largest project in our airport’s history – a brand-new $20 million terminal building at Meridian Regional Airport. This 22,793 square-foot facility will replace our existing terminal, which has served us well since 1959.

For several decades, we’ve worked with a building that no longer meets the needs of modern air travel. When our terminal first opened, there were no computers, the Americans with Disabilities Act had not been conceived and there were no passenger screenings of any kind. Even after six renovations over the years, limitations in the building’s structure and budget constraints left us with ongoing challenges – storage space had become tight, airline offices were far too small and ceiling heights were eight feet or lower in most of the building.

Thanks to the BIL Airport Terminal Grant Program, Traditional and Strategic Multi-Modal grants and the Mississippi legislature, we now have the opportunity to build a new facility. These grants have given us the chance to reimagine how our airport can better serve our passengers, staff and the community.

This new terminal represents more than just a building – it’s an investment in our state and the future of our region.

Construction has begun on Meridian’s new terminal.

The future terminal building will meet needs not imagined when the existing facility was built in 1959.
