FY2018 Airport Multimodal Program: The application information was activated on the MDOT website on March 1. The guidelines for the program can be found under the Instructions page. We will accept applications until the deadline of 4 p.m. on March 31, 2017. Any received after the deadline will be returned to the airport sponsor.
File Scanning: We have almost completed the file scanning project in our office. The contractor identified over 300,000 documents that we have accrued since 1946. Many of the old files on onionskin paper didn’t scan well. For the most part, we have the construction plans for the majority of the projects; however, the earlier plans are not as legible as we had hoped. They are either too dark or the line weight was such that it just isn’t legible. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about going through with the project, but now that we can see the final product, it’s going to help immensely with keeping up with all the project submittals. And speaking of submittals, please make sure that all plans and specifications are submitted to us electronically, either by e-mail or on DVD. We don’t have the resources in-house to scan the large format plans.
Aeronautics Revenue: We have been keeping an eye on our aviation fuel tax over the past several months. We have seen a substantial decrease in aviation gas and jet fuel taxes that are collected and reported to us by the Department of Revenue. A couple of reasons for the decrease are the loss of Southwest Airlines and the mergers between the major airlines. I will go into more detail at the MAA Airports Conference next month.
