The expansion will allow for future hangar development on the northern end of the airport.

The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission recently began a concrete apron expansion project at Stennis International Airport.

The $2.6 million project will add 68,880 square feet of space to the north apron. Like the aprons and runway throughout the airport, the new apron will be constructed to carry the world’s heaviest planes.

“The project will increase operational capacity for aircraft parking for both operators based here and transient traffic coming into the airport,” says Chanse Watson, Airport Director. “The expanded apron will also allow for future hangar development on the northernmost airport parcel.”

The project includes a new access road to Texas Flat Road. A specialized landing zone will also be built to allow for emergency landing training for rotorwing aircraft.
