JMAA and Hudson by Avolta Partner for Fireside Chat and Book Signing with Captain Beth Powell

Ken McBride of Hudson by Avolta led a fireside chat with Captain Beth Powell.

In partnership with Hudson by Avolta, the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) proudly hosted aviation trailblazer Captain Beth Powell for a powerful Q&A and book signing featuring her book, Queen of the Skies.

The enriching conversation, led by Ken McBride of Hudson by Avolta, transformed Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport’s (JAN) Medgar Evers Pavilion into a space of reflection and inspiration – so compelling that travelers paused their journeys just to listen. Powell’s story – from Jamaica to the flight deck of the world’s largest airline – reminded listeners of the power of perseverance, purpose and possibility. Her books sold out, a testament to the impact of her voice.

We were honored to have our leadership team present, including CEO Rosa Beckett, whose introduction reflected JAN’s commitment to inspiring future generations while honoring the path already made by Powell. Our partners from American Airlines were also on hand to welcome and celebrate her dynamic story.

Held on a day of historic significance marking the activation of the Tuskegee Airmen’s first all-Black fighter squadron in 1942, this event was a powerful reminder that aviation continues to be a vehicle for progress, representation and dreams realized.

Black History Month Celebrated with Culture and the Arts

Stephany Brown, an accomplished quilter with 21 years of experience, recently shared her quilting journey with our passengers and community. She demonstrated her fiber arts at JAN. Her quilting and storytelling were presented in honor of American history, highlighting the powerful role art plays in preserving culture and connecting generations.

JMAA was also honored to host Charles “Smarty Pants” King, Jr., in February, as he exhibited artwork that has inspired our community for more than four decades. His collection remained on display in throughout the month on the JAN ticketing level, providing travelers and visitors with an opportunity to experience the rich creativity and cultural expression that define our region.
