MDOT REPORT
MDOT Aeronautics
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and I hope everyone has safe travels over the holidays!
We’ll be hitting the ground running in the new year, starting with the Strategic Multi-Modal Investments Fund. The inaugural application cycle opened December 18 and will run until the end of January. This being the first cycle, I’m sure there will be some questions. Feel free to reach out at any time. Also, MDOT has committed to funding half of the local share for FAA BIL-AIG projects, up to $200,000 per airport per year. The program will run the same as the standard AIP one to which you have grown accustomed.
Lastly, long time Director, Office of Intermodal Planning, Charles Carr is retiring effective January 1, 2024, with 42 years of state service. With Charles’ retirement comes some restructuring that will result in the Office of Intermodal Planning and Highway Operations, to be led by Jim Willis, P.E., who was the Assistant Chief Engineer – Operations. As a side note, Jim was my boss during my entire tenure at MDOT prior to moving to the Aeronautics Division.
