In 2022, Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport saw its highest passenger numbers in a decade.

The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) reported passenger numbers not seen in a decade for the calendar year 2022. As shown in a release on final 2022 statistics by the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Division, Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) continues to be the number one airport in the state, carrying nearly six of every ten passengers boarding at the seven commercial airports.

Delta Air Lines, the longest-serving air carrier in Jackson (since 1929), was the leader in market share, carrying 32.1 percent of all JAN passengers, followed by American with 30.5 percent, Southwest at 30 percent and United at 7.5 percent.

As a result of substantial air service increases secured by JMAA at JAN during the past two years, passenger volumes ended more than 16 percent above the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 and surpassed those of 2021 by over 29 percent, when Mississippians returned to the skies in great numbers. This catapulted JAN into being one of the very top growth airports in the United States in 2022. The outlook for calendar year 2023 is for an increase of up to 9 percent in numbers of passengers.

“The JMAA Board of Commissioners is proud to continue its support of the leadership and staff of JMAA in their growth plans and to assist in the modernization program taking shape, all to improve the customer experience of Jacksonians and the central Mississippi flying public,” states Board Chairman Warren T. Herring.

Interim Chief Executive Officer John Means, Jr. states, “JMAA will continue to work closely with our airline partners to offer increased seats and enhanced flight options as passengers continue to return to the skies. With flights to almost all the major global hubs, we in Jackson are just one stop away from six continents.”

This past fall, JMAA announced the opening of several new restaurant options on both the east and west concourses. Delicious national and locally-flavored cuisines are available to our travelers, along with a variety of beverages for all ages.

Our world-class global airline partners American, Delta, Southwest and United continue to provide outstanding levels of customer service to get passengers on their ways to friends and family.
